- The pituitary is a small gland attached to the base of the brain
- Despite its small size it controls many different hormones
- Tumors of the pituitary are in their majority benign. They cause symptoms due to hormonal abnormalities or compression of the nerves that go to the eyes (optic nerves and chiasm)
- Treatment typically involves surgical resection or radiation therapy
- Surgical resection involves accessing the tumor through the nasal cavity
